AOE22 Panel Description

Using Collaborative Learning to Achieve Integration of Interprofessional Education (IPE)

This presentation shares an overview of the integration of IPE scenarios into the HIM curriculum using collaborative learning strategy. IPE was introduced to the students using scenarios and training materials developed at Arizona State University. HIIM students were teamed with medical laboratory science and cytotechnology students to develop a scenario. The focus of the IPE activity was the core interprofessional communication, roles and responsibilities of teams and high-performance teams. Faculty provided a template for the scenario development for students to develop scenarios focused on communication amongst team stakeholders. The student perceptions of IPE were measured before and after the experience using the SPICE R2 instrument. This activity covers all three aspects of the AIC (awareness, integration and creation) model for IPE.
