Dr. Carla Tyson-Howard, RHIA

 

Dr. Carla Tyson-Howard, RHIA, serves as the Program Director of the Health Information Technology at Houston Community College in Texas. As a graduate of Incarnate Word University, she holds the credential of Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) with a Doctorate degree in Higher Education Administration from Texas Southern University and a Master’s of Health Care Administration from Texas Woman’s University. She has authored textbooks, DVDs, CDs, and articles for the advancement of Health Information Technology education. She has presented at local, state and national conventions. To ensure the continuity of her students’ education, she established a named scholarship at Houston Community College just for those enrolled in the Health Information Technology program. Carla has served as vice-president of the Houston Area Health Information Management Association, volunteered with the YMCA and served on the Minority Achievers Steering Committee. She is married to her husband John Howard and together they have the cutest and smartest pit bull ever rescued.
