AOE22 Panel Description

Keeping Curriculum© Current Through Rigorous and Relevant Learning

We as educators must give students tools to keep building on foundational skills amid the continuous changing landscape of healthcare-adjacent education. One tool (or gift, if you will) educators can give to students is the preparation for their careers through a rigorous, relevant and engaging curriculum© that encourages development of the skills in each domain through appropriate learning activities. Elements of an engaging curriculum are it requires critical thinking, enforces leadership skills, applies elevated taxonomies (rigor), and demonstrate professional relevancy. The presentation will discuss the benefits of each element and offer tips and examples for implementing them. Studies on the engagement of online students versus face-to-face students will be discussed and how the research results can inform and improve how we embed engagement strategies in the academic program.
