DeShawna Hill-Burns, MPA, RHIA, CHTS-CP
DeShawna Hill-Burns, MPA, RHIA, CHTS-CP, has been an RHIA for more than 20 years. In 2019, she launched Midwest HIM Consulting following her time as multi-site director at Advocate Aurora Healthcare. She now serves as medical program director of the Health Information Technology Program and Medical Billing and Coding at Malcolm X College. She has also held roles at Ravenswood Hospital; Chicago Read Mental Health; Illinois State Psychiatric Institute; Jorge Prieto Health; John Sengstacke; Ambulatory Community Health Network of Cook County Bureau of Health; Provident Hospital; and Advocate Trinity Hospital. She has served as part time lecturer at Harold Washington College, The Jordan Evans Institute, Kennedy King College, Colorado Technical University, and Malcolm X College. Hill-Burns is proud to be the first member of her family to receive a college degree, graduating from Chicago State University with a bachelor’s degree in health information administration.
Hill-Burns is an active volunteer for AHIMA, ILHIMA, and the CAHIMA, where she served as president of ILHIMA and CAHIMA. She also served on various AHIMA taskforces and committees.
