Dr. Joan M Kiel, PhD, MPA, MPhil, CHPS, is Chairman, University HIPAA Compliance and Professor of HAPH at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Kiel's education includes a Master of Philosophy Degree (MPhil), a Master of Public Administration, (MPA) with a concentration in healthcare administration and policy, and a Doctor of Philosophy, (PhD) with a concentration in healthcare administration all from New York University, New York City. Joan has two certificates in information technology and legal studies from Duquesne University. She is also certified in healthcare privacy and security (CHPS) through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).Joan's awards include the Academy of Educational Leadership Outstanding Educator Award for Innovative and Creative Teaching, Duquesne University's Apple Polishing Award for Excellence in Employee Performance, Duquesne University's Rangos School of Health Sciences Dean's Award for Faculty Excellence in Scholarship, and the Duquesne University Creative Teaching Award. Dr. Kiel is the author/editor of 5 books and 1 manual focusing on healthcare information technology and has over 25 peer review journal publications and book chapters. She has presented internationally, nationally, and regionally with a focus on HIPAA, healthcare operations, and healthcare informatics. Dr. Kiel has been the keynote speaker for Faculty Development Presentations at various schools.
